ART DECO STYLE

World War I brought a sobering end to the lavish Art Nouveau style and a new modern, streamlined aesthetic developed in the 1920s and 1930s that eventually was known as Art Deco style. After WWI, the extravagance and excessive carvings found on Victorian and Revival styles was seen as outdated. Consumers wanted simplicity in design, and at the same time were fascinated with the new technological advancements in society, including the automobile, the airplane, the radio, television and skyscrapers, such as the Chrysler building and the Empire State Building in New York City.

Early Art Deco style is marked by sweeping curves, which give the impression of speed and velocity and the aerodynamic nature of automobiles and airplanes. Art Deco style can be understood as the celebration of the Machine Age, the optimism of spirit that proclaimed the future is here brought by technology. At the same time, there was a feeling of disconnection with the past and a rebellion against societal norms during the Roaring Twenties, which was expressed by the Flappers, young women who threw off their girdles, cut their hair short, smoked, drank, and danced all night in the Jazz clubs. Such a break in tradition demanded a bold, new and dramatic style and Art Deco fit the bill.

As the Art Deco style developed, there was a shift away from sweeping curves to rectilinear lines and geometric shapes, however the shapes were often fractionated forms that mirrored the contemporary Cubist art of Pablo Picasso. Hallmarks of the Art Deco style include geometric shapes, trapezoids, zigzags, chevron patterns, a sunburst motif and the stylized use of gazelles, deer, and birds, as well as a bold and dramatic color palette. Bright green, red, orange, yellow, and blue were found everywhere, especially on the cheery dishware line called Fiestaware in the US. Pink and black was also a favorite color combination. After the stock market crash of 1929 when 25% of the US was unemployed, inexpensive Art Deco wares remained popular as the vibrant colors boosted spirits and the focus on technology and the future gave promise that things would get better.

Steel Wheels is the 19th studio album by The Rolling Stones and was released in 1989. Heralded as a major comeback upon its release, the project is notable for the patching up of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' relationship, a reversion to a more classic style of music and the launching of the band's biggest world tour at the time. It is also long-time bassist Bill Wyman's final studio album with The Rolling Stones, preceding the announcement of his departure in January 1993.

Consists of four pieces total. The two nodder shakers are full-bodied Irish Children. Stoppers are missing. The base and lid are in the shape of a heart. The base is marked--see photo. The two sides of the base say: Wild Irish Rose. The children themselves and base have a shiny glaze, but lid has a matte finish. Won't lie, this set was crudely painted and made so don't expect perfection--for example, the nodder tubes have to sit just right for them to nod well. Mention all this for accuracy (the set pictured in the 1002 Nodder book looks the same). This is a great set and does look good and displays well. Please review all photos before placing an order. Still factory sealed is this greatest hits re-issue of the 1962 LP "The Golden Hits of The Everly Brothers". Not sure of the re release date on this but it does have a bar code on the back of the cover.  Still factory sealed and NOT A CUT OUT this one of Paul McCartney's best LP's solo or with Wings, though Venus and Mars comes darn close. This is the original picture disc that came out in 1978. Sure it can be played but it was more to be on display than to play. JOSEPH AND JESUS

Joseph, also known as Saint Joseph, Joseph the Betrothed, Joseph of Nazareth, and Joseph the Worker, is known from the New Testament as the husband of Mary, mother of Jesus, and although according to Christian tradition he was not the biological father of Jesus, he acted as his foster-father and head of the Holy Family. Joseph was visited by angels and is noted for his willingness to immediately do what God told him to do. Joseph was a carpenter and many Christian teachings emphasize his patience, persistence, and hard work as admirable qualities to be imitated. Catholics believe he prays especially for families, fathers, expectant mothers, travelers, immigrants, house sellers and buyers, craftsmen, engineers, and working people in general. Joseph is often depicted holding the Christ child and a lily, which represents chastity and purity.

According to Christian folklore, burying a statue of Saint Joseph on a piece of real estate for sale is reputed to enlist the saint's assistance in finding a buyer.

The Christian religion is centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Christians believe Jesus is the Son of God.

Christianity has played a prominent role in shaping Western civilization since the 4th century. Currently Christianity has between 1.5 billion and 2.1 billion followers, representing about a quarter to a third of the world's population. With more than 1 billion members, the Roman Catholic Church is the largest church representing over half of all Christians and one sixth of the world's population.

In addition to working for Tabak, one of the leaders of the California sportswear industry, she was head designer for Phil Rose and other firms, including her own label. Her apparel and sketches have been featured in the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Los Angeles County Museum. Ms. Saltern is widely credited for pioneering the separates for which the California sportswear industry was famous. I have a huge collection from her estate and am pleased to offer pieces from it. Some of these are runway samples, worn only once; some are spec or sample pieces; and some are from her own personal wardrobe, which feature labels of her own design and other fine makers. All are constructed with quality, fine materials, and excellent workmanship. Ms. Saltern was meticulous in selecting fabrics, matching & coordinating colors, etc. Her silks and wools are among the finest I’ve ever seen. And her timeless designs, along with their exquisite execution, make them eminently wearable today.

This late 50s/early 60s "mad-men" sheath is perfect for cocktails and/or after work. Made of soft, lightweight wool in a "breathable," somewhat loose textured weave. A lovely fabric that appears comfortable to wear. Features gusseted kimono-style sleeves, nicely darted bustline for curvy shape, seamed & fitted waist, straight skirt, back metal zipper. Bodice is unlined bodice, skirt fully lined. No label, but I have the coordinating skirt suit--which sports the Tabak label and which will be listed soon. The 2-piece suit and this dress would make a great "weekender" outfit. Dress may have been a sample/spec piece rather than a production version.

Condition: Shell is near mint, appears new/unworn. Skirt lining is clean, with no wear, but has some minor color shift, very common in older acetate or rayon fabric.

Size: About a size 4 to 6 (small). But go by the dimensions below! We suggest you compare to a dress you have of similar style or fit. Due to the extra fabric of the sleeve gussets, bust measures a bit larger than it fits. Waist & hip dimensions are a more accurate guide to size on this. You want this to fit snugly, but remember to leave room for your body!

* Bust: Approx. 38 1/2" (accounting for ease from darts); * Waist: 27"; * Hips: 38"; Bodice Length: 15 3/4" from approximate top of shoulder; Dress Length: 38 1/4" down center back.

* Taken flat on front & doubled

NOTE: We recommend shipping insurance, but it's not mandatory on this dress (we're not responsible for loss or damage, of course, if you don't take it). We will combine shipping on multiple purchases for lower shipping charges.

 CHALKWARE

Chalkware is a term that refers to decorative items made out of gypsum, which were very popular from the late 18th century through the 1930s. Gypsum is a mineral compound also called sulphate of lime, which is usually found underground near limestone deposits. Raw gypsum is a pure white crystal called alabaster. When gypsum is heated, the resulting white powder is called burnt gypsum, also known as Plaster of Paris for the large gypsum deposit at Montmartre in Paris. Ordinary schoolroom chalk is also a form of burnt gypsum. Gypsum is easily cast into sculptures and decoration for frames, but is quite soft and breaks easily.

 Condition

 Condition:

 GOOD

In overall good condition. Antique and vintage items by their very nature show normal wear to finish and miscellaneous scratches, nicks, and dings due to age and use. As we define 'good condition' relative to the stated age of the piece, we would expect to see 'character marks' consistent with that age and could include nicks or dings to a wooden, metal, enamel, or chalkware object, wear to a painted surface, speckling on a mirror, crazing, wear to gilding, or manufacturing glaze skips in ceramic finish, wear to a label, and some original decorative trim may be missing. If ceramic/porcelain restoration has been done, it is of museum-quality so that it is hardly discernible and would be specifically mentioned in the listing. 'Good condition' could include very small fleabite chips or very small hairline cracks in any glass, ceramic, or marble item, but these would be specifically mentioned in the listing.

 Item Specifics:

Shows normal wear to finish and miscellaneous nicks and dings due to age and use. There is a small ding on chin and nose.

Rock a Little is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter and Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks.

Released in late 1985 while Fleetwood Mac were still on a lengthy hiatus following their album Mirage in 1982, Rock a Little peaked at #12 on the U.S. Billboard charts, and was certified platinum within three months of its release. Although sales did not match Nicks' earlier albums, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart (both selling in excess of 4 and 2 million copies in the U.S. respectively), Rock a Little produced the hits "Talk to Me" (US#4), "I Can't Wait" (US#16), and the mainstay encore for Nicks' live shows, "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" (US#60). The album peaked at #5 in Australia, #8 in Canada, and #30 in the UK.  This is a neat Peanuts Snoopy figural saving bank. Snoopy and his friend Woodstock are dressed as St. Nick and elf in their sleigh to deliver gifts. The bank money slot is the top of the blue present.

The bank measures 4 3/4" x 2 1/2" and is 5" high.

The bank is mold marked on the bottom: PEANUTS © United Feature Syndicate, Inc. / MADE IN CHINA.

This figural bank is in excellent condition, though it could be cleaned. There is no money removal opening; this is an excellent holiday display item. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Spots are reflections from photography flash and lighting.  Product Details

 PEWTER

Pewter is a metal alloy, traditionally between 85 and 99% tin, with the remainder consisting of copper, antimony, and lead, and has traditionally been used to make tableware and decorative items. Pewter is highly ductile, meaning that it can easily be worked, embossed, or carved, and has been in use since at least Roman times. Pewter starts out glossy and bright and over time the metal oxidizes, acquiring a nice grayish patina.

The tradition of marking high quality pewter began in the 14th century and continues today. Typical quality marks include the rose stamp, the crown stamp, and the angel stamp featuring the Arc Angel Michael with a balance and sword.
